A podiatrist who practiced in Tustin was charged with seven counts of insurance fraud.
Renae Louise Witt, 47, of La Pine, Oregon, allegedly submitted fraudulent billing between May 12, 2015 and March 31, 2017, for services not rendered on six patients after their treatment was complete, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office Tuesday.
“Witt is accused of billing Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Cross/Blue Shield a total of $174,395 for various medical services she never performed and depositing large sums of money into her business bank account,” according to a District Attorney’s Office statement.
Prosecutors say she moved to Oregon on Nov. 6.
The District Attorney’s Office began an investigation after being contacted by Anthem Blue Cross and Witt was arrested on Jan. 19 in La Pine by deputies from the Deschutes County (Oregon) Sheriff’s Department.
Witt is awaiting extradition and faces as many as 16 years in state prison, if convicted of all charges, which include a sentence-enhancing allegation of committing white collar crime over $100,000.
