An ex-con accused of holding up a Norco store and fleeing with all the cash he could grab was charged Thursday with robbery and other offenses.
Dwayne Wardell Haw, 38, of Corona was arrested Monday following a Riverside County sheriff’s investigation.
Along with the robbery count, Haw is charged with driving on a revoked driver’s license, having contraband in jail and a sentence-enhancing allegation of committing a serious or violent felony within five years of parole.
Haw, who is being held in lieu of $115,000 bail at the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside, is slated to make his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
About 3:30 a.m. Monday, the defendant allegedly went into a retail outlet in the 2600 block of Hamner Avenue, just west of Interstate 15, threatened the clerk with what appeared to be a handgun and demanded all the money from the register.
The victim turned over cash from “the evening’s sales,” at which point Haw fled, sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Torres alleged.
He said the convicted felon eluded deputies who converged on the location a few minutes later. However, detectives soon developed leads pointing to Haw as the alleged bandit, and late Monday afternoon, he was spotted driving a Nissan Maxima with expired tags on Lincoln Boulevard in Corona, where he was stopped and taken into custody without a struggle, according to the sergeant.
Court records show Haw has prior convictions for burglary, spousal abuse and possession of controlled substances.
