A man accused of hitting a pedestrian with a stolen pickup truck during a confrontation in Lake Elsinore was charged Thursday with assault with a deadly weapon, among other offenses.
Anthony Lee Trejo, 56, of Lake Elsinore was arrested Saturday night after the alleged attack in the area of Joy Street and Riverside Drive.
Along with the assault count, Trejo is charged with receiving a stolen vehicle.
He’s being held on $25,000 bail at the Byrd Detention Center and is slated to make his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Reese, shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, the defendant got into a conflict with a man near a strip mall about a block from the lake.
During the confrontation, Trejo “drove into the victim” with a Ford Ranger pickup, Reese alleged.
Witnesses called 911, and deputies converged on the location within a few minutes, taking Trejo into custody without a struggle, according to the sergeant.
He said the victim, whose identity was not released, suffered minor injuries and was treated at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar.
Further investigation revealed the pickup had been reported stolen in Oceanside, according to Reese.
A records check also showed Trejo had a warrant pending in a neighboring county for alleged offenses that weren’t specified.
The defendant has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
