A man suspected of killing his ex-wife in her Koreatown apartment then fleeing to the Santa Cruz area is scheduled to be arraigned in March on a murder charge.
Joseph Chung, 50, was charged Wednesday, but his arraignment was postponed until March 11 in downtown Los Angeles.
Chung is accused of killing his 48-year-old ex-wife, identified only as Hyun, sometime between Jan. 19 and 20 at her apartment in the 400 block of South Berendo Street. Her body was not discovered until police went to the apartment on Jan. 22 on a report of a possible dead body.
No details have been released about how the woman died, but the coroner’s office ruled her death a homicide.
Los Angeles police said there “was a history of domestic violence” between the victim and Chung, who was quickly named a suspect in the case. Chung surrendered to police in Santa Cruz around 5 p.m. Monday, and he was returned to Los Angeles Tuesday.
He faces life in prison if convicted, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
