A convicted felon accused of abducting his girlfriend in Jurupa Valley and holding her against her will for nearly a week was charged Wednesday with kidnapping and other felonies.
Robert Stephen Lopez Jr., 46, was arrested Saturday in Los Angeles following a Riverside County sheriff’s investigation.
Along with the kidnapping count, Lopez is charged with battery on a domestic partner, burglary and vandalism.
He’s being held in lieu of $55,000 bail at the Robert Presley Jail and is slated to make his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Tyson Voss, the 6-foot-1-inch, 250-pound defendant allegedly went to the residence of 46-year-old Jennifer Martinez on the morning of Jan. 25, forcibly entered the property and overpowered her, inflicting an unspecified injury during the abduction.
Voss alleged that in the ensuing days, Lopez held the victim at an unspecified location in Los Angeles.
Martinez was located on Saturday morning and was reunited with her family, according to the sergeant. She did not require medical treatment.
Lopez taken into custody without a struggle at the same location.
According to court records, the defendant has prior convictions, including one for felony burglary, in another jurisdiction.
