A Monterey Park man was charged Thursday with stabbing his 65-year-old mother to death at the home they shared.
Alexander Joshua Escobar, 34, is set to be arraigned Friday at the Alhambra courthouse on one count of murder, along with a knife use allegation.
Escobar’s mother, identified only as “Josephine R,” by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, suffered multiple stab wounds to the upper body on Tuesday morning at a home in the 1700 block of Alisar Avenue.
Police received a 911 call about 10:45 a.m. from a man who stated that he had just killed someone, and responding officers found Escobar standing outside the home with his hands up, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which was called to assist Monterey Park police in the investigation.
Police detained the man and entered the home, where they found the victim. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and two knives were recovered at the location, authorities said.
Escobar has remained jailed since being taken into custody shortly before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to jail records.
He could face a potential maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
