Two suspected gang members are both facing a murder charge in connection with a drive-by shooting that left a 21-year-old man dead in the Whittier area.
Joseph Guerrero and Jonathan Luna Navarro, both 18, are set to be arraigned Sept. 24 at the Norwalk courthouse on one count each of murder and conspiracy to commit a crime, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a gunshot victim in the 13300 block of Meyer Road, near Carmenita Road, about 6:45 p.m. Aug. 17 and found Roy Carmona suffering from a wound to his abdomen. The Pico Rivera resident died at a hospital that night.
Carmona was standing on a sidewalk when a passenger in a black sedan fired several shots at him in an apparent gang-related attack, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Guerrero and Navarro were arrested Tuesday by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and have remained behind bars since then, jail records show.
