An attempted murder charge was filed Friday against a security guard accused of stabbing a 72-year-old Coto de Caza resident at the entrance to the gate-guarded community.
Luis Fabian Centeno, 29, was also charged with inflicting injury on an elder adult, with sentencing enhancement allegations of causing great bodily injury on an elder, attempted premeditated murder, personal use of a deadly weapon, and inflicting injury on an elder 70 years or older.
Centeno, who’s being held on $500,000 bail, was a security guard for the community, but it was unclear whether he was on duty at the time of the attack, said Carrie Braun, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s deputies were called at 11:42 a.m. Wednesday to Coto De Caza Drive and Antonio Parkway and took Centeno into custody, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Breckner said.
Investigators have still not been able to talk to the hospitalized victim because of his condition, Braun said. He was admitted to an intensive care unit and is unable to speak at this time, but is expected to survive, the sergeant said
