A transient was charged Tuesday with raping a homeless woman who was subsequently found dead on a Pomona street.
Jerome Perrin, 41, is set to be arraigned Feb. 24 at the Pomona courthouse on one count each of kidnapping to commit rape, rape of a person who was unconscious or asleep, oral copulation of a person who was unconscious or asleep and sexual penetration of a person who was unconscious or asleep, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Perrin allegedly found the victim, who appeared to be sick, in a back lot near the 2000 block of South Garey Avenue on Jan. 11. He allegedly dragged her to a dark location, sexually assaulted her, covered her with a blanket and left, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The woman — identified by the coroner’s office as 34-year-old Shaday Olais — was found dead the next day behind the Rio Rancho Mall, at 2001 S. Garey Ave.
Rhe coroner’s office has not yet determined how she died, according to online records.
The investigation into Olais’ death is “ongoing and the results from the LA County Coroner’s Office investigation (are) pending,” Pomona police said last week, adding that it was unknown “to what extent drugs or alcohol may have played in the victim’s death.”
Perrin, who was arrested last Thursday morning and remains in custody, could face a potential maximum sentence of seven years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
