A 50-year-old convicted sex offender was charged Tuesday with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in Santa Ana.
Jason Jamal Ortiz was charged with kidnapping to commit rape and escape by a prisoner in custody with a felony pending stemming from a case out of Miami, Florida, according to court records.
Ortiz was accused of attacking a 19-year-old woman Monday on the 1400 block of South Main Street, Santa Ana police Sgt. Mariz Lopez said. Police were called at 6:43 a.m., according to Lopez.
Ortiz pleaded guilty March 7, 2016, to criminal threats, assault with intent to commit a sex offense and false imprisonment effected by violence, all felonies, according to court records. He was also convicted of kidnapping in Florida on Sept. 22, 1992, according to the criminal complaint.
