A man accused of gunning down a Perris resident sitting in his car was charged Friday with murder and other offenses.
Arthur Daniel Laguna, 31, was arrested early Wednesday following a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigation into the slaying of 26-year-old Jacinto Placencia in the 21700 block of Markham Street, near Carroll Street, in Mead Valley.
Along with the murder count, Laguna is charged with sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations. He’s being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta and is slated to make his initial court appearance Friday afternoon at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez, the attack happened about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, though the circumstances were unclear.
Ramirez said deputies were sent to the location to investigate reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and found Placencia shot several times inside his car.
Witnesses provided deputies with a description of the alleged shooter, Laguna, who was tracked down six hours later in the 20200 block of Hunter Street, where he was detained without a struggle, Ramirez said.
The victim was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The defendant has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
