A 26-year-old transient pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of raping, kidnapping and attacking his ex-girlfriend in Santa Ana.
Ryan Raymond Magdaleno is charged with two counts of domestic battery causing injury with a prior conviction for violence, kidnapping, rape, criminal threats and robbery, all felonies. He was ordered held on $1 million bail and will return to court Sept. 5 for a pretrial hearing.
Magdaleno pleaded guilty July 25, 2012, to a felony count of assault with a semiautomatic gun and a misdemeanor count each of gross negligent discharge of a firearm and street terrorism. He served 180 days in jail.
On July 13, the two got into a dispute in which the defendant allegedly smashed her phone so she could not call for help, Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. As she tried to walk away, he followed his ex-girlfriend, who is also homeless, and raped her in the 1000 block of Broadway about 10 p.m., Bertagna alleged.
Magdaleno allegedly held the woman captive until she was able to get away about 8 a.m. the next morning, Bertagna said.
Magdaleno was also accused of domestic battery against the woman on June 23 and July 8, according to court records.
