Two men were charged Tuesday with murder in the fatal beating of a man whose sister was attacked outside a Hollywood nightclub early Sunday.
Dietrich Canterberry, 34, and Cordell Shields, 35, are scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 16 in connection with the Oct. 30 killing of 29, of Los Angeles.
Shields is also charged with one count each of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery for allegedly punching Jelkes’ sister in the face as she tried to get into a car.
Prosecutors said Jelkes was running toward his sister when he was allegedly attacked by the two men. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
The attack occurred about 2:20 a.m. Sunday outside Couture, at 1649 N. Cahuenga Blvd. Canterberry was arrested after leaving the scene on a party bus, which was subsequently stopped, and Shields was arrested Monday morning, according to Los Angeles police and jail records.
If convicted as charged, Shields could face up to 26 years to life in prison, while Canterberry could face a possible 25-year-to-life term, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
