A man who allegedly shot a bicyclist in Blythe following an argument over a dice game was arrested Thursday on an attempted murder charge.
Deveon Keyshawn Smith, 21, of Blythe, is accused in the April 11 shooting of a man who police say was shot in the back while riding his bike near Barnard Street and Palm Drive at around 10:30 p.m. The severity of the unidentified victim’s injuries were not disclosed.
The men were seen arguing near the sidewalk on Palm Drive just prior to the shooting, according to witness accounts detailed in an arrest warrant declaration.
Prosecutors charged Smith on Monday with attempted murder, plus sentence-enhancing allegations of using a firearm and causing great bodily injury.
According to the declaration, officers initially tried to locate Smith at his Blythe apartment, but he was not there and was believed to be in the Palm Springs area.
However, Smith was arrested Thursday afternoon on West Barnard Street and was being held at the Blythe jail in lieu of $1 million bail, according to county jail records. He’s expected to make his initial court appearance on Monday.
