Murder charges were filed Thursday against a man and woman accused of the slashing murder of another man in Lake Forest on Monday.
Jose Rafael Andrade-Membreno, 22, and Xiomara Berrios, 18, were charged with murder and criminal threats with sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a deadly weapon — a knife or machete — and gang activity, according to court records. Berrios was additionally charged with a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the criminal complaint, the murder victim was identified only as Marco M. Orange County Sheriff’s officials have yet to identify the victim and previously reported he was in his 20s.
A woman, whose name was not released, was a separate victim of assault with a deadly weapon in the case, according to court records, which also said the weapons used in the attacks were a machete and knife.
Deputies responded to a call at the Forest Glen apartments on Farthing Street shortly before 6 a.m. Monday, where a resident reported seeing a male “collapsed outside in a courtyard with significant wounds,” said Carrie Braun, public information officer for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
