A man has been charged in connection with a police chase on Dec. 29, announced the California Highway Patrol Sunday.
Brian Steve Palacios, 29, of Los Angeles, has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs and felony reckless evading, the CHP said.
At 6:25 p.m on Dec. 29, CHP officers made contact with a driver in a green Subaru parked within a freeway closure on southbound Arroyo Secor (110) Parkway, north of Manchester Ave. Officers observed signs and symptoms of intoxication. Palacios was uncooperative and refused to answer any questions.
Palacios locked all his doors and barricaded himself within the vehicle. Moments later, he drove off and reentered the freeway. A CHP helicopter and CHP ground units pursued the vehicle through various freeways and cities, including Los Angeles and Long Beach.
Speeds on the freeway reached up to 100 miles per hour and 60 mph on city streets. After exiting the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, the Subaru drove erratically with disregard for the safety of other motorists.
CHP units executed a successful pursuit immobilization technique maneuver that forced the vehicle to strike a curb on S. Western and W. Adams Avenues and come to a stop. At approximately 08:03 p.m., Palacios surrendered to police and was taken into custody without injuries. He was booked at Los Angeles Police Department 77th Division jail without further incident.
