A 56-year-old man made his first appearance in court Friday in connection with a deadly crash on the Riverside (91) Freeway in Anaheim.
Daniel Dauz was charged Nov. 9 with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and faces a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on one of the two victims, according to court records.
Dauz was arrested on the charges Wednesday. The complaint alleges an unsafe turning movement, inattention and an unsafe lane charge.
Dauz is accused of killing Leticia Ocampo Perez in the Nov. 12, 2017, crash. Her age and place of residence was not immediately available and the prosecutor who filed charges, Deputy District Attorney Brian Orue, did not immediately return a message.
Perez, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, was a passenger in a minivan that was involved in a collision with a car, the California Highway Patrol reported the day of the crash. Another woman in the minivan was also injured in the crash, according to court records.
The crash occurred about 2 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the freeway near the Harbor Boulevard offramp, the CHP reported.
Dauz’s arraignment at the county’s jail in Santa Ana on Friday was rescheduled for Feb. 8 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
