A Cypress man was charged Thursday with killing his 84-year-old grandfather.
David Jacob Tenorio Tenorio, 23, is being held on $1.1 million bail pending arraignment on a murder charge, which was rescheduled to March 8 in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana.
The defendant was arrested late Tuesday night on suspicion of killing 84-year-old David Tenorio Sr., said Cypress police Sgt. Scott Ausmus.
Police were called to 6804 Ossabaw Court about 9:25 a.m. Tuesday on a “medical aid” request, Ausmus said. When officers arrived, they found the octogenarian’s body, Ausmus said.
The defendant and victim had previously lived together at that address for a few years, according to court records. The younger Tenorio lived in Garden Grove as of August, according to a traffic ticket issued then.
The defendant pleaded guilty to possession for sale of Alprazolam, a sedative commonly used to treat anxiety disorders, and resisting arrest in July. He was ordered to participate in a 6- to 12-hour educational program, in which case the convictions would be dismissed, but he failed to appear at his sentencing Oct. 10 and an arrest warrant was issued, according to court records.
Tenorio also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor petty theft in July 2014 and was sentenced to 20 days of Caltrans labor.
