A Rosemead High School substitute teacher and walk-on track coach is set to be arraigned Tuesday on charges stemming from an alleged long-term sexual relationship with a female student.
Fidel Camarena Dominguez, 37, of La Puente, has been jailed since being arrested last Friday by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau.
He could face more than 10 years in state prison if convicted of six counts of lewd acts on a child 14 or 15, two counts each of oral copulation of a person under 16 and dissuading a witness, along with one count each of unlawful sexual intercourse and oral copulation of a person under 18, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The criminal complaint alleges the crimes occurred between February 2015 and June 2017.
In a statement released shortly after the charges were announced on Monday, El Monte Union High School District Superintendent Edward Zuniga said the suspect “has worked as a substitute teacher and walk-on coach at Rosemead High School. He is no longer allowed on or near campus. All processes and protocols were followed prior to his commencing work. The El Monte Union High School District is deeply committed to fostering a positive, safe and secure learning environment for our students, staff and faculty. We do not tolerate any behavior that compromises the security of our students, and we take all accusations seriously.”
