The Los Angeles Rams’ strength and conditioning coach was arrested and charged this week in Ventura County with three counts of misdemeanor sexual battery, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s office.
Theodore Rath, 35, pleaded not guilty to three counts of misdemeanor sexual battery after being arraigned on Friday, officials said.
The charges arose from an incident on June 15, 2018 in which Rath allegedly touched intimate parts of a woman’s body against her will at a private residence.
Rath is out of jail on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to return to court on April 19, Ventura County Senior Deputy District Attorney Erik Nasarenko wrote in a statement. If convicted on all three counts, Rath faces a maximum sentence of one and a half years in county jail.
Rath has 10 years of experience in the NFL. Before joining the Rams, he worked for the Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions.
The Rams issued a statement on Rath’s situation.
“We are aware of the charges filed against Ted Rath. We take these allegations very seriously. Once the charges were filed, we decided Ted would take a leave of absence from the team as this matter works its way through the justice system,” the Rams stated.
