A man charged with ID theft of dead people to defraud families and senior property owners out of real estate holdings has been arrested.
Vu Hoang Ho was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for stealing the identities of deceased owners or “living elderly victims,” and then forging their names on various fraudulent real estate documents.
He then recorded those documents with the Los Angeles County recorder’s office, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
“The suspect then offered the properties for sale unbeknown to the victim investors without the victim owners’ knowledge,” according to a sheriff’s department statement.
Ho, who is charged with identity theft and other forgery and fraud- related charges, was being held in lieu of $1.225 million bail.
Ho was charged after a three-month investigation by the Real Estate Fraud Unit of the sheriff’s Fraud & Cyber Crimes Bureau.
