A convicted felon accused of gunning down a 23-year-old woman and seriously wounding a man during an attack at a Lake Mathews home was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder and other felonies.

Andrew Mathew Stewart, 21, of Riverside was arrested Saturday after allegedly killing Kimberly Grajeda in the 16000 block of Jordana Court, in a community known as Lake Hills.

Along with the murder count, the probationer is charged with attempted murder, child endangerment and sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.

He’s being held in lieu of $2 million bail at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta and is slated to make his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

Stewart allegedly shot the victims about 1:30 p.m. Saturday during a confrontation of an undisclosed nature inside the residence. Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez said witnesses reported the gunshots, and deputies arrived within a few minutes, locating Grajeda suffering from wounds to the upper body.

A man who was with her was also shot, the sergeant said. Both were taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where Grajeda died a short time later. Ramirez said the man, whose name was not released, is recovering.

Stewart was arrested at the residence without incident.

According to Ramirez, three children were in the house at the time of the alleged attack. None of the minors were hurt.

Court records show that Stewart has prior convictions for assault with a firearm resulting in great bodily injury and assault with a deadly weapon.
