A 26-year-old man pleaded not guilty Friday to a hit-and-run collision that killed a pedestrian in La Habra.
Ricardo Preciado Saldivar was charged Tuesday with a felony count of hit-and-run with death and a misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended or revoked license due to a DUI.
Saldivar was ordered to return to court Dec. 16 for a pretrial hearing in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
The defendant is accused of killing 52-year-old Pablo Tiul of La Habra, who was crossing against a red light at Harbor and La Habra boulevards about 5:30 a.m. Sunday when he was struck by a car that kept going, authorities said.
Tiul was on his way to catch a bus to work, and Preciado Saldivar was driving to work, investigators said.
Preciado Saldivar kept driving after the collision and went home, but his family persuaded him to return to the scene, where he was arrested about 30 minutes later, according to police.
He was twice convicted of driving on a suspended or revoked license in 2016 in Orange County and again in Los Angeles County in 2017, according to court records.
