A 23-year-old man accused of gunning down a Good Hope resident is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Thursday.
Nicholas Paul Rivera of Good Hope also faces sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations. He’s being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta and is slated to make his initial court appearance at the Riverside Hall of Justice Thursday morning.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Carroll, the shooting happened about 1 a.m. Monday in the 21900 block of Post Road, near Sawgo Drive. Patrol deputies were sent to the location to investigate reports of a man down and found the victim, whose identity has not been released, dead from a gunshot wound, he said.
Homicide detectives soon identified Rivera as the alleged assailant, and he was taken into custody without incident hours later, according to the sergeant.
A possible motive for the attack was not disclosed.
Rivera has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
