A man has been charged with attempted murder and sexual assault in connection with the attack of an 80-year-old woman in Hollywood, authorities said Tuesday.
Marcus Datwione Peete, 33, is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center, said Greg Risling of the District Attorney’s office.
On June 18, the victim answered her front door in the 1700 block of North Ivar Avenue, and Peete is accused of forcing himself inside, pushing the woman into her bedroom and beating her, Risling said.
Peete allegedly sexually assaulting the woman as she fought back, punched her several times, and fled on foot, Risling said. The woman was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive the attack.
Peete was arrested on June 19 near Crenshaw and Olympic boulevards. If convicted as charged, Peete faces up to life in prison, Risling said. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
