A man accused of sexually assaulting and trying to kill an 80-year-old Hollywood woman in her apartment last month is due in court Wednesday to be arraigned.
Marcus Datwione Peete, 33, is charged with one count each of attempted murder, sexual penetration by a foreign object, assault and first-degree burglary with a person present, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Peete allegedly forced himself inside after the woman answered her front door in the 1700 block of North Ivar Avenue, then pushed her into her bedroom, beat her and sexually assaulted her as she fought back.
The woman, whose name was withheld, was hospitalized.
Peete was arrested June 19 near Crenshaw and Olympic boulevards by Los Angeles police. If convicted as charged, he faces up to life in prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
