A convicted gang member is facing attempted murder and other charges stemming from a shooting at an Anaheim park.
Brian Alarrazabal was charged Tuesday with attempted murder, shooting at a vehicle, carrying a loaded gun in public and being a felon in possession of ammunition, all felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for gang activity and the personal use of a gun.
Alarrazabal is accused of shooting at a vehicle on April 22, and for opening fire at Brookhurst Park about 6 p.m. Sunday near Crescent Avenue and Brookhurst Street, said Anaheim police Sgt. Jon McClintock.
As officers arrived, they saw the suspect running away and determined he discarded a loaded gun moments before he was arrested, McClintock said. No one was injured in the shooting, he added.
Alarrazabal has a lengthy violent criminal record, according to court records.
The defendant pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon with a sentencing enhancement for gang activity May 28, 2014.
He pleaded guilty to carrying a dirk or dagger and gang vandalism March 7, 2019, and pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a firearm, robbery and participating in gang activity, all felonies, with sentencing enhancements for gang activity, Sept. 1, 2021.
Alarrazabal was scheduled to be arraigned on the latest charges May 31.
