Felony charges were filed Tuesday against a man and woman accused in a gas station robbery in East Hollywood in which a clerk was shot with a BB gun.
Christian Vela, 22, and Jeanette Zavala, 21, are charged with one felony count of second-degree robbery, which includes an allegation that Vela used a BB gun in the commission of the Sept. 26 crime.
The two are also charged with a felony count of vandalism of over $400 involving an alleged confrontation with employees at a restaurant later the same evening.
Zavala allegedly stole a case of beer from a gas station in the 600 block of North Western Avenue, and Vela is accused of shooting the clerk multiple times with a BB gun after the employee followed Zavala and took back the beer, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The two allegedly got into a confrontation that evening with employees at a restaurant in the 5400 block of West Sunset Boulevard during which kitchen equipment was damaged and a BB gun was shot at a window, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Vela faces up to 11 years and four months in state prison if convicted as charged, while Zavala could face a maximum of five years and eight months in state prison.
