Capital murder charges were filed Tuesday against a man accused of fatally shooting his stepfather and a teenage girl whose mother survived the attack in Compton.
Jamie Williams, 43, pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
The murder charges include a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, along with gun allegations.
Prosecutors have yet to decide whether to seek the death penalty against Williams, who reportedly ran naked from the home in the 600 block of West Palmer Street where the shooting occurred about 6 p.m. Friday.
Eddie Talley Jr., 65, and Brittany Malone, 13, were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. The girl’s mother, who was married to Talley, was shot in the upper body and hospitalized, authorities said.
“My sister was shot twice,” Taylor Murrell, the wounded woman’s brother, told reporters at the scene. “My niece is dead and (my sister’s) husband is dead. (My sister’s) husband’s son shot them all.”
Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza told reporters that witnesses saw Williams “running out of the house naked.”
A handgun was recovered at the scene.
A motive for the shooting has not been determined, according to the sheriff’s department.
Williams — who was arrested late Friday and booked early Saturday — has remained behind bars since then, according to jail records.
He is due back in a Compton courtroom Oct. 24, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to require him to stand trial.
