A 33-year-old man was charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting a young relative, starting when she was in second grade and continuing through the fourth grade, in Santa Ana.
Eduardo Difredo Bonilla-Gomez is scheduled to be arraigned April 24 on two felony counts each of sexual intercourse, sodomy and sexual penetration involving a child younger than 10 and two counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor younger than 14, along with a misdemeanor count of possession and control of child pornography.
The girl, who is now 10, confided in a friend, who told her mother, who alerted the victim’s mother, who called police, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
The defendant is accused of showing pornography to the youngster and taking pictures of her in the nude while engaged in a sex act, Bertagna said.
Police suspect the defendant, who is from a Central American country, may have realized police were on his trail because he applied for an expedited, updated passport, but police used a ruse to get him to return home, where he was arrested, Bertagna said.
